These cocktails are inspired by some of history's most famous revolutionaries.
bolivar's folly
This drink is inspired by Simon Bolivar, the South American revolutionary hero. Like Bolivar, this drink is such a success you might not know when to stop! It should be made with Bacardi because like our hero, Bacardi has been exiled from the land of its birth.
- 2 measures Bacardi
- 1 measure dry vermouth
- 1 measure triple sec
- 1 measure Grenadine
- 2 measures soda water
Add all of the ingredients to a shaker with ice. Stir and strain into a martini glass.
the lord protector
Like Oliver Cromwell, this drink is sure to divide opinion.
- 2 measures plum gin
- 1 measure Elderflower cordial
- 1 measure dry vermouth
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Twist of apple peel to garnish
Add the plum gin, vermouth, Elderflower cordial and cinnamon to the shaker and mix. Strain into a whisky glass over ice. Peel a long, thin strip of the apple and twist it around a straw, then garnish with the apple.
The Toussaint Louverture
This bittersweet drink is an underrated classic, a bit like it's little-known namesake.
- 2 measures spiced rum
- Tonic water
- Fresh lime to garnish
Pour the spiced rum into a high-ball glass over ice. Top it up with tonic water and garnish with a wedge of lime.
The Robespierre
This shot didn't quite work out as planned and will knock your head off, so the name is fairly self-explanatory!
- 1/2 measure Pernod
- 1/2 measure Chambord
Half fill a shot glass with Pernod. Pour the Chambord on top and drink quickly.
