Sloe gin

This was the first flavoured gin that I made, and I have made a few tweaks to my recipe over the years. A lot of recipes use way too much sugar, so I have steadily reduced the that amount I use.

  • 500 g sloe berries (about half a carrier bag full)
  • 100 g sugar
  • 500 ml gin

Wash the berries and freeze them overnight. Defrost the berries and pop them in a Kilner jar. Sprinkle the sugar over the fruit and then pour in the gin. Seal the jar and give it a good shake. Leave it in a cool, dark cupboard for about 6 to 9 months, giving it a shake every month or so. You can leave it for longer if you want.

Once it is ready, strain the liquid through a sieve and pour into a clip top bottle.

Raspberry gin

This is a really easy flavoured gin to make, and you can do it in a couple of weeks, depending on how much of a hurry you're in! I don't use any sugar in this recipe, because I quite like the slightly sour tang you get, especially when you use it in a G&T.

  •  2 punnets of raspberries
  • 500 ml gin

Add the raspberries to a Kilner jar and pour in the gin. Give it a really good shake to start to break up the fruit. If you are making this in a week or two, give it a shake every day, or else leave it for about a month, shaking it every week.
