Negronis are often called the emperor of drinks, so these versions are inspired by everyone's favourite Roman Emperors.
The divine nerva
This Negroni uses red wine to give a Roman twist. Credit for the idea for Pinot Noir in a Negroni needs to go to Jack Greene's bar in Hobart, Tasmania.
- 2 measures Pinot Noir
- 2 measures Campari
- 2 measures Gin
- Orange to garnish
Fill a whisky glass with ice. Add the wine, Camapari and then the gin. Stir and garnish with a wedge of orange.
The Trajan
Sambuca is everyone's favourite Italian spirit, so what better base for this bitter sweet Negroni. A couple of these and you'll want to expand your empire all the way to the Persian Gulf as well.
- 2 measures sambuca
- 2 measures Campari
- 2 measures vermouth rosso
- Orange to garnish
Fill a whisky glass with ice. Add the Campari, vermouth and then the sambuca. Stir and then garnish with the orange.
The antoninus pius
This drink uses Aperol rather than Campari to give a lighter flavour and isn't as full on a normal Negroni. Like Antoninus himself, this drink's a bit weaker than the rest but it has a certain charm.
- 2 measures vermouth rosso
- 2 measures Aperol
- 2 measures Gin
- Orange to garnish
Fill a whisky glass with ice. Add the vermouth, Aperol and then the gin. Stir and garnish with a wedge of orange.
The marcus aurelius
In honour of most people's favourite emperor, this drink uses premium ingredients to really make you meditate!
- 2 measures Noilly Pratt dry vermouth
- 2 measures Campari
- 2 measure Gin
- Orange to garnish
Fill a whisky glass with ice. Add the vermouth, Campari and then the gin. Stir and garnish with a wedge of orange.
